Planting Day at Te Maire Lagoon in Shannon

Yesterday on Wednesday 14 June our class travelled with Room 6 to a place called Te Maire Lagoon in Shannon to help plant trees. We were invited by Horizons Regional Council. We had to take a bus because it was too far to drive.

Before we started we had a karakia led by Matua Robert Ketu and Pa Wylie. We helped plant 1,800 trees in just under two hours. Afterwards we were starving! We had kai and water given to us by Ngāti Whakatere. We all enjoyed our day. Written by Poutama.

  1. Wow Poutama Class you have been very busy! 1800 trees is a lot, ka mau te wehi! We were not surprised that you were hungry afterwards. Te Maire Lagoon looks like a beautiful place. We have a lagoon near our school too called Panmure Basin or Kaiahiku. It is formed from a volcanic crater and has a walkway around the edge. Thanks for sharing.

  2. G,day Poutama . That looks amazing. 1,800 trees in two hours! No wonder you were hungry. You guys did an amazing job. Maire Lagoon reminds me of sometimes when Im going to my grandmas. Ifits been raining alot some of the paddocks are like lakes. Thanks for telling me about it.

  3. Kia Ora, Poutama class. You guys are so lucky that you got to go to a lagoon. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing journey with us, my favorite part was when you told us that you have planted 1800 trees which is really good for the environment. How was it like working with another class? What did you had to eat? After reading your amazing blog it reminded me about another blog that I have also read about a class went to camp and it was a lot like your trip to Te Maire Lagoon. I am really excited to her about you next adventures! Bye.
